War Child Holland’s Syria Response Programme

War Child has been actively responding to the Syrian crisis since early 2012. War Child is currently the leading agency providing emergency psychosocial support and education services to Syrian children in Lebanon. We are also present in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq to support the urgent needs of displaced Syrian children through our education, PSS and child protection programmes.

The ultimate aim of War Child’s Syrian Response Project is to ensure the improved psychosocial well-being and resilience of the many thousands of children taking part in our programmes. These programmes - together with our network of ‘Safe Spaces’ - allow children to process their traumatic experiences and begin to plan for a better future.

Your challenge


You are responsible for the realisation of War Child’s Syria Response Programme fully implemented by local partners. As the Country Director you will lead the development of the long term strategy and implement accordingly.


The current conflict, sudden changes in the context, makes the Syria Response Programme challenging.


War Child’s Syria Response Programme has been growing and consists of projects funded by a range of donors and is carried out in collaboration with different partners. As the Country Director you will be responsible for building strategic partnerships.

You also have the final and overall responsibility for Finance Management, Logistics Management, Human Resources Management and management of staff.

Your profile

  • An experienced and inspiring leader
  • At least 15 years relevant experience in an international/humanitarian context of which 8 years in a senior management position (e.g. as Representative or Country director)
  • Experience in security management and context analyses
  • Proven experience in the Middle-East
  • Relevant academic background e.g. psychology, pedagogy, community development, social sciences, international relations
  • Experience in working with local partners and preferably in our field of expertise;
  • Experience in financial management (including management of multiple grants)
  • Excellent command of English, fluency in Arabic is a plus
  • Strong problem solving and social skills
  • Proven affinity with War Child’s mandate.

Job Location: Nicosia, Cyprus

Contract: War Child Holland is looking for someone committed to invest at least 2 years in this position, starting with a 1 year contract with the intention to prolong
