About Can’t Wait to Learn 

Can’t Wait to Learn (CWtL) proposes new cost-effective solutions to the urgent challenges facing education for children in emergencies. By utilising innovative technological solutions with a focus on serious gaming, CWtL builds on concepts which have been successfully piloted in Sudan.  

Can’t Wait to Learnhas the potential to provide out-of-school children with access to education opportunities, especially in rural areas where no formal schools exist. The programme uses education technology as part of a model of education which is offering certified curriculum level content through applied gaming and personalised pupil engagement. The programme uses a range of innovative, results focused approaches: combining context specific applied gaming and community-based facilitation instead of waiting for formal schools to be built; a strong innovation management staged approach to growth with rigorous appropriate research; and focusing on getting the right partnerships in place. 

Responsibilities:  

The Intern will primarily support the programme team in developing and implementing the game content of the Can’t Wait to Learnprogramme, namely:  

  • Develop, revise, and translate the detailed game content of the Can’t Wait to Learn programme; 

  • Support the programme team with various tasks related to the development and implementation of the game and support the Can’t Wait to Learn programme goals. 

Result Areas Include: 

Content database  

  • Provide input for the development of the content database 

  • ProofreadArabicor French content 

  • Ensure quality translation of the game content from English to Arabic or English to French  

General Translations 

  • Support the CWtL team with Arabic/English and French/Arabic translations 

  • Revise the quality of Arabic translation produced by Can't Wait to Learn partners 

Support to the Programme Team 

  • Provide support with the organization of presentations, meetings, and events 

  • Help the team in the process of grant compliance 

  • Support the team on communication, research, and reporting 

  • Support on resource and material management 

  • Ad Hoc tasks 

Outputs: 

  • Documentsandreports; 

  • Game content; 

  • Translations; 

  • Training materials. 

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Currently studying Social Sciences, Linguistics, Liberal Arts or similar, while maintaining honours level standards; 

  • Ability to produce high quality translations from English to Arabic or English to French  and vice versa; 

  • Proven ability to solve problems and leverage appropriate resources to produce quality outcomes; 

  • Very strong teamwork and communication skills including presentation preparation and delivery; 

  • Strong ability to produce quality work outputs within agreed priorities and to deadlines; 

  • Native Arabic speaker and excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written; 

  • Knowledge of NGO and/or development sector is preferred. 

Reporting 

  • The Intern will report to the Deputy Director – CWTL, and will work within the Amsterdam CWTL team 

  • Other regular contacts will include the Jordan, Lebanon, Uganda and Sudan country programme and operations teams, as well as external partners 

Commencement Date and Conditions:  

Based in The Netherlands working from home / university with regular meetings at the WCH Head Office in Amsterdam. As soon as possible for a period of three – six months. As per War Child Intern Policy, fee will be €200 gross per month (based on 5 days). Travel costs will be reimbursed. Please note that an intern at War Child need to be a registered student at a Dutch educational institution.
