War Child’s programme in the oPt
In the oPt, War Child works with partners to create an inclusive, protective mental health and psychosocial care system for Palestinian children and young people affected by conflict related violence, including in domestic and juvenile justice settings. We help build a network of support, from community interventions to specialized psychological and legal services. We work with communities, families, parents, caregivers, youth and children, as well as professionals, with the aim to provide a safety net for children and young people in the West Bank including East Jerusalem, and Gaza.
You are responsible for the realisation of War Child’s country programme. The country strategy is being finalized to guide War Child through 2020. As the Country Director you will lead the management team to implement the new strategy.
The current conflict in the country, changes in the context, and political developments can make working in oPt challenging.
War Child’s programmes in oPt have been growing and consist of projects funded by a range of donors and is carried out in collaboration with different partners. As the Country Director you will be responsible for building strategic partnerships.
You also have the final and overall responsibility for Finance Management, Logistics Management, Human Resources Management and management of staff.
• A seasoned and inspiring leader;
• At least 10 years relevant experience in an international/humanitarian context of which 4 years in a senior management position (e.g. as Representative or Country director);
• Experience in security management and context analyses;
• Relevant academic background e.g. psychology, pedagogy, community development, social sciences, international relations;
• Experience in working with local partners and preferably in our field of expertise;
• Experience in financial management (including management of multiple grants);
• Strategic networker and partnership builder;
• Strong problem solving and social skills;
• Proven affinity with War Child’s mandate.
• Knowledge and experience in oPt desirable
• Arabic language desirable

Job Location: East Jerusalem, occupied Palestinian territory with frequent travel to Gaza and occasional travel to the Netherlands.
Contract: At least 2 years in this position, starting with a 1 year contract with the intention to prolong

oPt is a family duty station. An expatriate is allowed to bring a partner and children, but will be expected to travel regularly and for extended periods to Gaza, where partner and children cannot accompany.
